MapDesk Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 12, 2026
MapDesk is an application that provides map information, real-time traffic data, route planning, and navigation for trips.
This Statement describes:
- What data do we collect about you?
- How do we use your data?
- How long do we store your data?
- How do we share your data?
- What map data do we use?
- Changes to this Privacy Statement
1. What data do we collect about you?
As part of MapDesk, we may collect and use your personal data only for the purposes stated in this Statement. Personal data means any information that enables us to identify you as a user.
We may collect and process the following data:
- MapDesk account information: such as the account identifier, service token, and profile picture, which are processed by MapDesk on the device.
- Location information: such as location data based on GPS and network location — Wi-Fi and Cell ID — received on your device from your location services provider.
- Network information: such as IP address.
- Browser information — only when using the MapDesk website: such as cookies, only essential cookies.
- Device information: such as device random identifier, device type, device name, ROM version, operating system version, and language.
- Service usage information — not all of the listed data will be processed for the iOS version of the service, as its features are limited: frequently used addresses, search terms — place name, address, phone number, longitude/latitude, search results, such as POIs, favorite places, start and end times of navigation, navigation routes, driving navigation information — longitude/latitude, language, and driving speed, traffic information, pictures provided when reviewing a place, comments and reviews made for places on the map, nearby bus stops, status of consent to marketing communications — on/off, search keywords and results, which will not be stored, as well as POI information contributions — for example, correcting the address of a restaurant or the opening hours of a business.
- Feedback information: such as device information, contact information — email address or phone number, feedback description, including any attachments or logs you voluntarily decide to add.
- Campaign participation information — not available in the iOS version of the application: such as home address and contact information provided when winning a prize, as well as campaign results.
- Third-party-related information that may not relate to MapDesk users: such as comments about POIs on other platforms, such as Booking.com. This data is displayed in MapDesk only when users search for reviews of certain POIs — hotels, restaurants — without nicknames or photos.
If you are a POI owner, please refer here for more information on how POIs are processed.
To provide you with the MapDesk service, Internet access is required, as well as permissions to access storage — when you upload files or images to MapDesk, location — for map information queries and navigation, and microphone — for voice search. If you use the application on an iOS device, only location permission is required. You can manage permissions on your device in the system settings.
2. How do we use your data?
To provide you with MapDesk services and fulfill our contractual obligations, we need to collect and process your personal data so that you can search the map, plan routes, use navigation, and save frequently used addresses. This also enables us to process your data for customer relationship management, support and communication, customer complaint handling, maintenance, software and system updates, user identification, and problem diagnosis and repair.
In addition, we may use your personal data for the following purposes based on legitimate interests:
- Analysis and development. This enables us to understand your needs as customers and improve the quality and user experience of our current and future services and offerings. This includes processing fully anonymized location data and anonymized search input that will not be linked to you, so that we can improve the service provided to users. You may object to such data processing as described in Section 5.6 below.
- Marketing purposes, including communicating about our offerings, sales promotion, and other marketing purposes, as well as creating aggregated target groups for marketing. You may object to such data processing as described in Section 5.6 below.
- Navigation improvement — this feature may not be available in the applications. We will process your driving navigation data, which contains longitude/latitude, speed, and language, as well as the MapDesk app ID, without any identifier that directly or indirectly links this data to you, and without the location of the starting and ending points of the route. This processing helps us understand traffic and navigation in real time and correct available information about routes and conditions.
- Personalized recommendations — this feature may not be available in the applications. If you have the MapDesk personalized recommendations feature enabled, your search history, search terms and results, approximate location, and MapDesk ID information will be processed only on your device to provide you with search content tailored to you, such as showing restaurants and cafes that may be of interest to you based on locally processed data.
- Information security, including processing your data to detect or prevent various types of service abuse and fraud in order to provide you with secure and reliable services on all types of devices — Android and iOS.
In addition, we use your personal data for the following purposes with your consent:
When you give consent, your location data will be processed to provide you with location-based services, such as navigation and positioning.
3. How long do we store your data?
We will store your personal data for no longer than is necessary for the purposes defined in this Statement.
We will process and store your data for the duration of the customer relationship.
4. How do we share your data?
We store your data in data centers located in the European Union, EU, / European Economic Area, EEA.
Our third-party vendors who provide us with IT services, including cloud-based services, business support, and customer support services may need to process your information. All such third parties operate under contract and act on our behalf, and are located in the EU/EEA, except where you use the service in the following countries:
We share your data only in the following cases:
- When you sync your data with a third-party cloud storage provider, your synced data will be disclosed to the cloud storage provider you selected using end-to-end encryption. Please make sure you review the privacy policies of the third-party cloud storage provider to understand how they process your data. When syncing your data with a third-party cloud storage provider, your data may be transferred outside the EU/EEA if the cloud storage provider is established outside it.
- We may disclose your data in response to a legal process or request from a competent authority in accordance with applicable laws, or in connection with legal proceedings or processes.
- Your data may also be disclosed as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
When transferring and disclosing your data outside the EU/EEA, where local law may not provide the same level of protection, we will comply with applicable legal requirements for providing appropriate safeguards for such transfers, including the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses — SCC. If you would like to obtain a copy of the actually signed SCC, please contact us.
5. What map data do we use?
To provide map information, MapDesk may use data from open sources, including OpenStreetMap (OSM). Such data may include information about roads, routes, infrastructure facilities, organizations, places, addresses, and other POIs.
OSM map data is created and updated by a community of users and may contain inaccuracies, errors, outdated information, or incomplete information. MapDesk is not the author of such data and does not guarantee its completeness, accuracy, relevance, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose.
You use map data and routes built on the basis of such data at your own risk. MapDesk is not responsible for any losses, damages, delays, routing errors, incorrect information about roads, traffic restrictions, objects, addresses, or other map elements arising from the use, inaccuracy, or unavailability of OSM data or other third-party sources.
6. Changes to this Privacy Statement
We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time. We encourage you to check our website regularly for the latest version. If we make material changes, we will provide prior notice where technically possible and appropriate.
